Early years
Allan Stewart Konigsberg was born in Brooklyn, New York, on the 1st of December, 1935. Woody Allen is the son of Nettie and Martin Konigsberg, the first child of the couple.
Allen’s childhood was not a very memorable one – the turbulent relationship between his parents and Nettie’s temperamental nature had a negative impact on him.
Career
Allen’s career began while he was still in high school. He became a full-time humourist after writing monologues. In the year 1954, he began helping Caesar write scripts for shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show.
Allen has inherited his father’s wanderlust for work, jumping from project to project when bored. In 1961, he took up stand-up comedy, making his debut at a club in Greenwich Village called Duplex.
He got the big break in 1965 with his screenplay for the film, “What’s New, Pussycat?”
Allen, however, was unhappy with the changes made to the film and vowed to write no scripts again unless he was the director.
Allen then returned to lighter comedy in the 1990s. Not only did his films gain popularity, but he also received quite a few Academy Award nominations.
Allen released two films in 2011 and 2012: “Midnight in Paris” and “To Rome With Love.”
As of 2022, Woody Allen’s net worth is $140 million.
